Akeley Wood Junior Choir Rocks the Royal Albert Hall
Posted on 13 December 2011
On Friday 9th December, the Junior Choir took part in the Young Voices concert at the Royal Albert Hall, in aid of the CLIC Sargeant Charity.
We arrived just in time for lunch where we sat in glorious sunshine on the steps of the Albert Memorial. Many of us shared our lunch unintentionally with the pigeons. At 1.45pm it was time to take to our seats for rehearsals, the children were very excited. They soon fell silent as they walked in to the Hall, it certainly was an amazing sight. The rehearsals went on all afternoon and we were joined by some of the guests that would also be performing in the evening. They were The High Kings, Connie Talbot and Randolph. The whole choir of 1300 children sang enthusiastically all afternoon. It was soon time for the evening performance and many of the children were joined by their parents. Akeley Wood sang their hearts out. The Royal Albert Hall reverberated with the beautiful sound of choirs from many schools. The High Kings and Connie Talbot brought the house down and Randolph entertained us with many tricks.
We had a story from Michelle Ryan (Zoe Slater in ‘Eastenders’) and a presentation on the work of CLIC Sargeant by Gaby Roslin. The whole evening was rounded off with a fantastic ‘Queen’ Medley where the children were joined by all of the special guests.
All in all, we had a fantastic day and all of the children were not only a credit to Akeley Wood Junior School but to their parents too.
