A Level Results

It was celebrations all round at Akeley Wood Independent School in Buckinghamshire last week as the school celebrated a 99% A Level pass rate (grades A-E).

The number of pupils receiving A to C grades was an impressive 84% (65.7% achieving an A or B grade).  Pupils did incredibly well in Mathematics and Textiles, all achieving an A grade.  English and Further Mathematics were also particularly successful with all pupils achieving an A or B grade.

Amongst the individual achievements were:

  • Alex Aitken who received 4 A grades and will be studying Music at Cambridge on a highly sought after Organ Scholarship
  • Charlotte Whitecross who received 3 A grades and will be studying Veterinary Medicine at Glasgow

 Other students achieving 3 A grades were:

  • Hugo Wilson studying Psychology at Exeter
  • Mao Mao studying Mathematics at UCL
  • Jin Wang studying Engineering at Imperial
  • Oliver Collins studying History at Exeter
  • Lisa Tsao studying Economics at Southampton

Other top universities accepting Akeley Wood School pupils this year include Durham, Oxford, and Warwick.

Dr Jeremy Grundy, Headmaster of Akeley Wood School, commented:

'Warm congratulations to all the students at Akeley who deserve to have done so well this year. Once again, we have built on the success of previous years and improved pupils' performance across the board.'

Akeley Wood School Sixth Form continues to grow and flourish.  In the last few years the number of A-level courses taken has more than doubled from 61 in 2006 to almost 140 in 2009.
