AKELEY WOOD SCHOOL CELEBRATES BUSINESS STUDIES WEEK

Last week was designated as Business Studies Week at Akeley Wood Senior School and, to mark this occasion, the Business Studies Department consisting organised several events throughout the week.

As part of their Business Studies GCSE coursework, the year 11's have to undertake a market research project. The trip to Cadbury World was not only a chance to gain a valuable insight into the history and production techniques of a multi national company (as well as eating loads of chocolate obviously), it also afforded us the chance to attend a lecture given by a member of the Cadbury Marketing department. This was an extremely useful insight into the inner workings of a large company and should prove valuable when it comes to writing up the marketing plans and carrying out the primary market research. I am sure all of the year 11's would agree that they had a great time on the trip and the Business Studies department would like to thank Mrs Leighton and Miss Bahra for giving up their time to chaperone the students along with Miss Sharratt.Year 11 trip to Cadbury World

 Enterprise Club

Throughout the week the teams of sixth form students who make up this year's Enterprise Club have been holding stalls selling everything from sweets to hot snacks. The amount of preparation on the parts of the students for these stalls is more than you would imagine. A risk assessment was even carried out for the selling of pot noodles! These stalls were a great success and allowed the Enterprise teams to increase the amount of capital within their businesses to fund the main event of this term, which will be their stalls at the Christmas Fayre on 28th November. The Enterprise Club teams would like to thank the Catering Manager, Mrs Karen Ireland, for her co-operation.

Guest speaker  - Mrs La'Dell Delfan-Azary

On Friday we were extremely fortunate to have a local entrepreneur to come and speak to the year 12 students about the trials and tribulations of starting your own small business. This was most useful as it is the focus of the first AS Business Studies examination in January. La'Dell has set up the Tiny Toes Day Nursery in Maids Moreton and gave a most interesting and informative speech. The Business Studies department would like to express our thanks to La'Dell for taking the time and trouble to come in and speak to us and by providing us with a valuable insight into what goes on in the real world in a small business.

Overall, the week was a great success and I hope it has raised the profile of the Business Studies department across the school. The Enterprise Clubs look forward to your support at the Christmas Fayre where they will be selling calendars featuring art work created by students from across all years of the school, hand made toiletries and bags and even providing live Christmas music for the event.
