‘DRESSED TO THE NINES’ FOR CHILDREN IN NEED
On Friday 20th November Akeley Wood Senior School showed their tremendous support for Children in Need. We organised for the staff to be sponsored in fancy dress and Sophie Setterfield (9FBA) put on a fantastic cake sale at break. Our hard working kitchen staff also spent ages creating delicious ‘Pudsey Bear’ shortbread for desert.
This all started when Sophie approached me in October asking what we could do to raise money for Children in Need. We discussed the potential ideas for fundraising and decided that the most practical ones would be the staff fancy dress and a cake sale. Sophie also had the idea for the kitchen staff to be involved and provided them with a ‘Pudsey Bear’ cutter! Sophie did an amazing job of organising the cake sale. She ordered Children in Need bags to put sweets in and Children in Need cup cake cases. Sophie spent the whole of Thursday evening baking and put an amazing amount of effort into organising the cake sale and involving her friends.
I took the idea of sponsoring tutors to our Senior Management Team who thought this would be a great way of fundraising, in particular Mrs. Jobling! The form tutors discussed ideas with their form and those brave enough (Mr. Jackson, Dr. Hoyle) allowed the tutor group to chose their outfit! It was great to see the effort that the teachers went to on their fancy dress outfits and the children really appreciated this on the day. You just have to see the photographs to appreciate the effort that the teachers went to.
Thank you to everyone for a very successful ‘Children in Need 2009’ at Akeley Wood Senior School and especially to Sophie Setterfield for her time and effort in helping to organise the cake sale. The school has raised over £950.00 so far, with more donations still coming in.
I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do next year!
