Chamber Choir Sings at the Christmas Market
Posted on 01 January 2010Akeley Wood Senior School Chamber Choir sings at Buckingham Christmas Market
Akeley Wood Senior School has a very good reputation with regard to the standard of its choirs and we were asked by the organizers of the Buckingham Christmas Market to provide a choir to sing in the Market Square on Thursday 10 December between 6–7pm. It was agreed that Akeley Wood Senior School Chamber Choir be selected to perform at this prestigious event.
The Chamber choir is a small choir of 14 singers, the majority of whom are pupils who have reached the higher levels of music grades; Adelaide Newton, Ellie Parker, Jake Hughes, Sarah Dix, Oliver Penfold, Joshua Gentry, Francesca Clements, Alice Byron, Molly Suthers, Alicia O’Malley, and Zoe Lowes. In addition the choir is fortunate to have the support of three staff members; Mrs Parker, Miss Bahra and Mr Schurch.
So Thursday evening saw us assemble at The Dukes Music shop, before setting up outside The Old Gaol to perform. It was a very festive occasion, with Christmas lights and ‘artificial’ snow falling on us as we sang! We entertained the crowds with a selection of carols, some slightly less well known ones in amongst the more popular, and we were very well received. We had very positive feedback from the organizers and spectators.
The singing was unaccompanied; with the one exception of ‘Silent Night’ where Oliver Penfold accompanied the choir with his superb flute playing. Throughout the performance the choir sang beautifully, their best performance to date, really rising to the occasion and determined to show Akeley Wood Senior School in the best light. It was a real pleasure to direct them and take part in this event.

Choir Director.
