Music in Quiet Places 2011
Posted on 19 December 2011
This is an annual concert which takes place in a different village church to include soloists who have perhaps not performed before. This year the concert was held in the rural and small village of Leckhampstead in the ancient country Church of the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary, which dates from about the middle of the 12th Century. There are only about 200 inhabitants residing in Leckhampstead so it was a joy for them to hold a concert of such a high standard in a beautiful setting.
Many of the soloists had not performed before, and one girl had only three lessons before her performance! It can be terrifying to play/sing in front of an audience, in front of your peers and in front of your Parents. Musicians all have stories to tell of their own performances that they felt went badly, but what is important is that they continue to work hard and go on to perform again and again.
The students who performed at this concert have all worked so hard and it is fantastic that they were all able to get up and play in front of so many people. There were piano players, singers and flute players, and music ranged from traditional classical works to music of today including jazz and songs from theatre productions. There was also a piece written by the Mother of a performer.
It was such a beautiful evening, the stars shone so brightly and all the performers were wonderful. Well done to Molly Stobart, Isabella Festa, Anna Palagina, Theo Grundy, Imogen Day, Sade Lee, Imogen MacColl, Lizzy Neal, Phoebe Mumford, Lauren Cartwright, Hannah Huish, Isobel Bach, Shannon Daniel, Jessica Dagley, Hannah Roberts and Amelia Barnes.
