Top A* Results for A Level Students

Posted on 19 August 2010

There were celebrations all round at school today, as students received their A Level results. The School as a whole received a resounding 100% A Level pass rate (grades A* - E) and once again Akeley Wood has built on the success of previous years by improving students’ performance across the board.

Akeley Wood School has been delighted by the advent of the new grade system which has introduced the top A* grade to the results. The criteria for receiving an A* is that an A* candidate must obtain an A grade across all units, including AS level, plus an average of at least 90% in the A2 units.  We are delighted that across a wide range of subjects a significant number of our students received A* grades this year, including top marks in English, Geography, Psychology, Textiles, History, Maths and Further Maths.

Amongst individual achievements, Tiffany Baxter, who was awarded the ‘Spirit of Akeley Wood’ last year, received two A* grades in History and Psychology and an A grade in Art. Kevin Guo received 2 A* grades in Maths and Further Maths, plus two A grades in Physics and Chemistry, and is set to study Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University. We are immensely proud of all of our students who have worked tremendously hard to achieve such outstanding results.

Dr Jeremy Grundy, Headmaster of Akeley Wood School, comments: “I am absolutely delighted for all those who have done so well and gained their first-choice University places. I am especially pleased to see how, so many students have enjoyed significant value-added, with the vast majority of the Upper Sixth surpassing their predicted grades as indicated by their GCSE results.”
