TRIBUTE TO JOSEF PERL
Posted on 11 January 2010
Last June Josef Perl came to the school for the last time. Between the ages of 10 and 15 he had endured and survived the death camps. At Auschwitz, a wave of Dr. Mengele’s hand had allowed him to live, but what was he now retiring from? Visits to 40 or 50 schools each year to tell children about his experiences so that they could act as witnesses against racism now and in the future.
On 27th January 2010, Holocaust Memorial Day, there will be an evening focused on Josef Perl's contribution to education. This will take place in the Drama Studio at Courtmoor School in Fleet. It will consist of a retelling of his story with contributions by representatives of some of the schools he has visited. As Akeley Wood School’s part in this tribute, 5 pupils from Year 10 (Alex Wakefield, Josh Gentry, Matthew Trenholm, Jo Freeborough and Madeleine Sherriff) have made a brief video clip of thanks to Joe Perl, with the crucial help of Mrs. Leighton, Lucy Keegan and Felix Fennel for the filming and processing of the data. This will be the schools contribution to the tribute and if you want to see what they said, please click on this link. http://bit.ly/thanky0u
