U11 Rounder’s festival Vs Thornton, Dragon School, Beachborough and Ashfold.

On a very gloomy and grey Saturday afternoon the U11s headed to Thornton. The day didn’t start too promisingly, as by 11:30am we were down 3 of the 10 girls in the squad (and as we all know we need at least 9 in a team). However, what’s the saying ‘mind over matter’ – so if we didn’t mind, it didn’t matter? Luckily, all the girls arrived early, which gave us plenty of time to readjust the team and practise in our new set up- with some of the girls having to cover 2 jobs.

I have to say the girls did a remarkable job and I was so impressed with their level of focus and game play- they really stepped it up a level. Estelle was a fantastic bowler throughout- calm, collected and accurate, not easy when you have to drive to cover 1st and 2nd base too.  Julia was faultless behind at back stop – her timing was perfect and I think I counted only 1 ball that got away from her hands from all 4 games. India was marvellous at second base and she even started to play with the batters – allowing them to think they could get the better of her and get to second base, only for her to snatch the ball out of the air or off the ground and stump them out.  Then, our fielders of Tyler (right hand side), Evie (middle deep), Libby (middle near) and Sophie (right) worked their socks off. They were a really tight unit; calling to the fielder who chased the ball, so they knew what to do straight away and then swinging round to support each other when required, amazing fielding girls – what a day to pull it all together. To top it off our batting was spot on and there were some really powerful hits (those who tried to catch these, soon regretted it). Top run scorer went to Tyler with 6 rounders, closely followed by Estelle with 5.

A massive ‘thank you’ to all the parents who came and supported the girls- I know that your cheering and support made all the difference to their performance.

During the tournament we won 3 games and drew one giving us a final result of 1st place and tournament winners.

Great job girls, you were all amazing!
