A Taste of Triathlon for Akeley Students

In a first for Akeley Wood – we ventured into the sport of Triathlon last week! Early on Friday morning Miss Wood accompanied by students Beth, Katie, Daria, Matthew, Ella, Sophia, Jack and two Sams, and a band of supportive and enthusiastic parents took the trip to Ipswich High School for the Independent Schools Association National Triathlon event.

The year 7 and 8’s competed over a swim (300m), bike (4km) and run (2.4km) course, while the Year 10 boys competed over a slightly longer swim (400m) bike (5km) and run (3km).
We were delighted by the performances of all of the students who demonstrated a strong mix of determination, resilience, perseverance and a willingness to step out of their comfort zone to try new things.

The reward was some outstanding results on a national level. Sam G won Bronze, with Jack in 4th place. Katie missed 3rd place by 6 seconds finishing a respectable 4th in her age category. We are still awaiting final results but all of our team finished within the top 15 in their age category, and will benefit from this wonderful learning experience.

A special mention to our support team of parents, students and staff who made this day possible. We hope to enter some more competitions in the future – watch this space!
