African Music Day
On Tuesday July 5 2016, approximately 50 of our gifted and talented musicians at Akeley Wood Senior School took part in an African Music Day at Tile House Mansion. The day started with a movement/body percussion workshop for all the students, led by Donald Gamble, a visiting African Performer. Following this morning session, the students then split into groups and took part in African Singing and African Drumming workshops.
The day culminated in an afternoon performance, where the students took this opportunity to showcase to parents what they had achieved during the day. We were then treated to a performance from the “Destiny Africa” Choir. This choir is made up form orphaned children who now live in the Kampala Children’s Home, Uganda. It was very humbling to hear the children’s stories of adversity. They performed with such energy and enthusiasm, and the highlight was when the Akeley students joined the students from ‘Destiny Africa’ on stage for a finale of singing and dancing.
