Akeley students wow Stables Theatre audience

70th Anniversary Concert

More than seventy of our students took to the stage on Thursday 16 March to perform a myriad of musical acts. An apt number of students, as the Concert was part of the School’s seventieth anniversary celebrations. A musical extravaganza is what we were promised, and a fantastic evening of gifted and enthusiastic musicians and singers is what we got.

Director of Music at Akeley Wood Senior School, Mr Chris Powell, who was responsible for putting the whole concert together said: “The students have worked so hard for months and should be very pleased with their performances. They were even better on the evening and I am sure we had some very proud parents in the audience. The whole concert was made possible because of the contribution of so many people in the music departments and across the whole school.”

The concert featured a talented mix of choirs, vocal ensembles and soloists; instrumental performances on the guitar, saxophone, recorder, violin and piano; as well as our Orchestras and Jazz Band. Our students performed everything from show tunes and the classics, to some energetic pop music and jazz; with students ranging in age from Senior School right down to Year 3.

Head of Akeley Wood School, Mrs Jenny Clough said, “The students were fabulous and really rose to the occasion of performing in this delightful and impressive setting. It was wonderful to see so many parents supporting the event and performances by so many staff, past and present, and former students; a truly memorable evening!”
