An adventurous start to your child’s education in beautiful surroundings at Wicken Park. Children are encouraged to explore, be curious and to question. We encourage a love of learning and have developed an exciting curriculum which includes specialist teaching in subjects from Forest School to Food Technology as well as providing exceptional teaching in the core subjects. Academic progress and attainment is first-rate, well exceeding national averages but as importantly, it is a school where children thoroughly enjoy their childhood and develop the confidence and hunger for learning for their next adventure at our Senior School.
We offer the perfect introduction to Senior School life at Tile House Mansion, a campus dedicated exclusively to Years 7 and 8. Our creative approach to learning at Tile House has gained the school a place on the shortlist in the Times Independent Schools’ Educational Awards. Here the emphasis is on innovative learning and discovery. High-quality teaching in traditional subjects sits alongside a curriculum featuring futurology, the theory of knowledge and outdoor learning. This blend encourages curiosity and higher-level questioning and develops inner confidence and resilience which has life-long benefits. Children take on roles of responsibility usually set aside for Sixth Formers. They develop and manage committees, adopt mentoring roles and truly take ownership of the success of their educational experiences.
Akeley Wood House is our dedicated campus for the examination years. We offer an extremely broad range of subjects enabling all to select options where they have talent and can achieve optimum results. Teachers ensure that each child’s progress meets and exceeds their true potential through careful monitoring and reporting and this is supported by a pastoral care system which is second to none. Our Enrichment Curriculum encompasses everything from wakeboarding to Warhammer and takes places every Friday afternoon, it allows students to develop new skills and interests and encourages them to step outside their comfort zones. The wider life of the school includes curriculum linked residentials to Los Angeles (The Arts), Dubai (Sports) and Croatia (Geography), to name but a few. Teambuilding trips to our outdoor centre at Cuffley and international links with schools as far afield as Chile and Singapore develop character and a global perspective.
Within our Akeley Wood House Campus sits a dedicated Sixth Form Centre which features exclusive teaching, social, and eating areas as well as a careers hub. With ca. 100 students across Years 12 and 13, the Sixth Form at Akeley offers a vibrant and supportive community environment. It is small enough to offer individual support and encouragement to all, yet large enough to allow us to offer a huge range of subjects and flexible option blocks. In addition to A levels in over 20 subjects, we teach BTEC and CTECs in Applied Science, Business, Digital and Creative Media and Sport. Students can combine A levels and BTECs or adopt a purely A level or purely vocational route. Professional careers advice in addition to in-house support by UCAS and Oxbridge experts ensures that students feel confident and prepared for their next great adventure beyond school!
As parents you will rightly consider the cost of sending your child to private school. Here at Akeley Wood School, we understand that parents want flexibility in the way they pay their fees. There are different options available to parents, from paying termly in advance by direct debit or if you would like even greater flexibility, monthly through the School Fee Plan.
