European Day of Languages

Senior School Host the Cognita European Day of Languages

This year’s European Day of Languages celebrated innovation in language learning and teaching.  Here at Akeley Wood School we were delighted to host a Cognita-wide event with a musical focus.

Students and staff from North Bridge House, Meoncross, Hydesville Tower and Huddersfield schools joined us to share performances in a range of different languages.  From ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ in Spanish, with brilliant props, to poetry in German and songs in French, not only was the quality of linguistic skill impressive, but so were the extraordinary musical talents on show.

From an incredibly talented field four acts were chosen for special mention, including Anaya Kundi from Akeley Wood School, as well as representatives from Hydesville Tower School, Huddersfield Grammar School and Meoncross School. The winners of the prestigious trophy, kindly provided by Cognita, were Hydesville Tower School with their duet singing performance of Una Vez Mas.

Alongside the competition, the day gave a wonderful opportunity for pupils from all of the different schools to meet and spend time with each other and celebrate this day together.
