Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE

This term has seen the first cohort of Year 10 students embark on the Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE.  We have spent this term working on Nutrition (what is in our food and how it makes our bodies work); looking at the sensory properties of food and doing taste testing (any excuse to eat chocolate)  and developing practical skills.  Currently students are catching the minibus up to Tile House Mansion once a week where they have created a range of delicious treats learning basic skills,  We have tried our hand at Mary Berry’s Jaffa Cakes (we were all inspired by the Bake Off); cakes; pastries; meringues and lots more mouth watering treats.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the term and hope the students have too.  We are now planning some trips out, favourite so far is to go and try working in a professional kitchen – if anyone has any contacts who might be able to accommodate us or knows any professional chefs who might like to come in and do some demonstrations, please get in touch,
