Girls Hockey U14 & 15 V Quinton

Tuesday 13th September

On the hottest September day for 105 years, Akeley’s girls turned up the heat on Quinton to come out convincing 4-0 winners. After a sustained spell of intense pressure, the girls took the lead through Amelia Handley who drove a scorching hit into the Quinton goal. The conditions saw regular substitutions in order to keep the team fresh and two of those substitutes, Ella Rose and Mia Swain kept their cool in the D to score with blazing hits to make the score 3 – 0 by the end of the third quarter. In the 4th quarter, the heat and fatigue began to take its toll on the players and Quinton were presented with a few opportunities to score. However, stalwart defending and a great save by rookie keeper Katie Wright saw Akeley keep a clean sheet. A fine cross at pace from Megan Ponte was met squarely by Skye Verwey who converted to make the final score 4-0.
