Spring Term News
As the Easter break approaches we have seen a fantastic effort from Year 11 Historians who have now completed their GCSE course. On their return we will be reviewing their Unit3c Mock Examination performance and embarking on a rigorous programme of revision. Similarly, in the Sixth Form our A Level Historians and Politics students have started revising in earnest. We wish all our students facing national examinations this summer term the very best. I would emphasise to them two relevant and interesting quotations from the past. Firstly, from Friedrich Nietzsche: ‘He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying.’ Secondly, as they approach this final opportunity to prepare to impress the Examiners, the words of Margaret Thatcher: ‘Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It’s not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it’s when you’ve had everything to do, and you’ve done it.’
Our Year 7, 8 and 9 Historians have continued to make tremendous strides in their progress. It has been a challenging time for those facing GCSE options. We hope that we have achieved our target of fostering a genuine enthusiasm for knowledge of the past regardless of whether they are continuing at national qualification level. Our THM History Mascot, Nigel the Crusader Bear, is developing quite a substantial social life at weekends, visiting many places of historical interest. This is wonderful to observe and the students who choose to participate are highly commended for sharing an insight into their local history activities.
