The National Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery Visit
On Tuesday October 11th 35 Y11 and Y13 Art and Photography students visited the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square London. The journey into London is always lengthy and fog did not help!
However, once there we quickly picked up our guides, who were to give us talks on Landscape and Portrait painting. They not only gave us an insight into the history behind the paintings we looked at, but brought to life the subject matter and the techniques used to create them.
After lunch the students were allowed free access to the galleries to produce drawings and studies relevant to their exam portfolios. Drawing from first hand observation is a necessary and extremely valuable asset to learning about and appreciating works of art. The students had a very intense day.
