New Staff Member at the Senior School

Hi, my name is Charissa Halliday. I grew up in Milton Keynes and I am an ex-pupil of Akeley, having spent my adolescent years enjoying everything the school had to offer. It was clear though, from a very young age, I had a passion for dance; and, at 16, I successfully auditioned to train professionally at one the leading performing arts colleges in the UK – Laine Theatre Arts in Surrey. I graduated in July 2013 with a Trinity Diploma in Musical Theatre and Dance, as well as gaining my ISTD teaching qualification. After graduating, I decided to continue with my ISTD dance teaching qualifications, alongside teaching at various dance schools.

I now work as a self-employed dance teacher at various dance schools teaching tap, modern, contemporary, ballet, jazz, street and musical theatre; where I enter children for exams from grade one, right up to major advanced 1 and 2. I teach starts from as early as three right up to eighteen. I am also a qualified fitness instructor and work at a number of gyms with adults doing dance related fitness. I have worked on many professional productions over the years but, most recently, I worked during the Christmas period as Dance Captain and Co-Choreographer for a professional pantomime company, Magic Beans. This role involved working with all the cast in the pantomime, choreographing and teaching them, including the children as well as the principal cast and celebrity stars of the show. On top of this, I also appeared in the show as a professional dancer.

I have enjoyed performing professionally and am now ready for the exciting prospect of teaching and developing more dance opportunities at Akeley Wood, a school I loved coming to as a child.
