Summer Term News

The summer term has been action packed with plenty of cricket, rounders, tennis and athletics fixtures. There have been a number of highlights throughout the term with pupils making excellent progress in both Games lessons and competitive matches.

The U14 girl’s rounder’s team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next round of the school games. A number of excellent performances from Katherine Baverstock in the field contributed to their success.

The U13 boy’s tennis team consisting of Thomas Ladyman, Daniel Wakelin, Jamie Angus, Alfie Richardson, Euan Dixte and Calum Dixte finished in 2nd place in their Aegon league recording convincing wins  10-2 over RGS High Wycombe and Sir William Borlase and narrowly losing out to Dr Challoner’s Grammar School on a championship tie break decider.

We have also seen a number of excellent performances in the athletics season which ended with the district athletics event on Wednesday 28th June. There were some standout performances from a number of pupils however, Isobel Sumner and Tomas Hitchens stole the show finishing as district winners in the 100m and 75m hurdles respectively.

The cricket season has seen huge developments in our teams bowling and fielding however our batting has been the real sticking point of the season and this will be something that we will look to focus on next season. A highlight of the season was the 2nd Colts team who chased down 131 runs to win against Maidwell Hall.

Well done to all pupils who have contributed to Akeley Wood sport this term and we look forward to seeing further development in the next academic year.
