Tile House Students Tackle BBC News!

Tile House Students Tackle BBC News!

On Thursday 16th March 2017, students from Akeley Wood School took part in the BBC School Report to experience a day in the life of a news reporter. This day was packed with challenges and started with an Editorial Meeting in which we selected our reports, completed research and began our storyboards for the day.

We had a range of topics from ‘A day in the life of…’ to ‘How Outdoor Education can support your mental health’. The hardest part was working to strict deadlines and this was really difficult because there was so much to do. The filming and editing was tricky and took a lot longer than we thought.

We interviewed Miss Seckington, our News Report teacher, and asked her why she decided to run this event. She said she wanted students to “gain independence and experience of careers related to English.” Her favourite part was watching us work with Year 12 students when we were filming our news footage.

We also interviewed a student who took part in the day who said they chose to take part in the BBC School Report to see what it would be like to work as a reporter and interview the teachers.

Today has been great fun and we have learnt to write, film, edit, report and present within a deadline. We cannot wait for the next reporting event.

Check out the school website and BBC School Report online to watch our reports.
