Vitality Netball Super Ten – Genting Arena
On Saturday 25th February myself, Mrs Howkins and 15 students departed Akeley Wood house and headed to the Birmingham Genting Arena for a day of top quality Netball. The first game started at 12pm with a mouth-watering clash between Loughborough Lightning and the newly formed Severn Stars, where the experience of the Loughborough Lightning squad tore through the Stars’ defence, winning 56-44. This was followed by a meeting of the non English teams, as Sirens took on Celtic Dragons at 2pm, and the Sirens comfortably took the win at 73-36. Mid afternoon, Team Northumbria faced the challenge of another newly formed team, the Wasps Netball, who showed that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with this season by winning 70-46. At 6pm two of the biggest clubs in Super League history went head-to-head. Surrey Storm and Manchester Thunder battled it out, with Surrey Storm just stealing the win in the last quarter at 58-48. And to conclude the day at 8pm, there was with another battle of former champions as Hertfordshire Mavericks lost to team bath 42-49.
A long, but incredibly inspiring day. Thank you to the students for representing Akeley Wood impeccably.
