Year 11 Food Technology
Year 11 Food and Nutrition students have recently completed the practical part of their final GCSE examination.
The examination board brief – Plan, prepare, cook and present a range of dishes that are:
- a good source of protein suitable for pescatarian or vegan; or
- a range of dishes that meet the nutritional needs and appeal to teenagers; or
- a range of dishes that are based on Asian cuisine
Students have researched the nutritional and cultural influences of their chosen task and made some dishes to illustrate it. This culminated in the detailed planning and delivery of a three-hour practical examination, making three different dishes whilst showing high skill levels. A bit like the pressure of ‘Bake Off’ without Paul Hollywood!
They now have to do a cost and nutritional breakdown of their dishes and suggest ways in which they can be improved and developed.
Students have been immensely professional, rising to this challenge and they should feel very proud of themselves for the work they have produced.
