Year 6 End of Term News

As the Spring sunshine starts to finally shine upon us and our Spring Term comes to an end; the Year 6 pupils have been reflecting on the highlights of yet another busy term. Commencing with the rearranged Year 5 and 6 Carol Concert, a plethora of sport fixtures, the trip to the Super League Netball game and the WASPs Netball training session (for the girls), and lots of charity work to support (Don’t stare it’s only hair and Mr Peedell’s marathon run for Asthma UK – Good Luck Mr Peedell). On top of all of that, the children have also managed to complete the term’s curriculum.

Below are a few of some of the exciting things from this term, from the children’s perspective.

The sporting highlights have included additional rugby training for the A team after reaching the National Rugby Finals; Altay (6K) said “I have enjoyed the additional rugby training instead of football, due to the success of reaching the finals”. Jasper (6K) recalled, “I have enjoyed being goalkeeper for the Bs and I have only let in one goal this season”. Lucie and Hannah from 6K have enjoyed their numerous netball matches and the festivals.

Poppy, Theo, Lily (all 6K) and Oscar (6B) are all feeling proud of completing their term as a House Captain. They have been great role models to the other children in the school; they have enjoyed the extra responsibilities they have gained. Kobi (6K) has taken great pride in being a play leader, “It’s lovely when they coming running to you as soon as you get on to the field”.

Lily, Greta and Katie (all 6C) have really enjoyed their term of Forest School; (Greta) told us, “I really enjoy Forest School as we have free choice and it teaches us to work together, especially when we are caring for the animals”. (Katie) revealed, “I like Forest School as we get to bond with the animals as well as climbing trees and building dens”.

On an academic front, Harrison, Nicole and Norah (all 6B) have enjoyed the new style of Maths Mission homework and the actual Maths Mission lessons, “It is great as we get to work with our friends”, (Nicole).
Finn (6C) said, “I have enjoyed singing with the choir and I competing in my first competition”. Lily (6C) recalled the memory of the Opera day as one of her personal highlights, “I really liked the Opera Day because it was very interactive. We did lots of fun dancing and vocal warm ups. Next, we were put into different groups so that we could prepare to perform ‘The Magic Flute’ in the afternoon. I was a monster minion, it was so fun. I was loved it when the Opera singers were telling us about the pitch of their voices and then they demonstrated by singing a little bit”.

As you can see, the children have had lots on, so we hope they have enjoyed their second term in Year 6. To top off our Spring Term the children have come off timetable to become young entrepreneurs. They have been busy making the products they voted as winning ideas last term, ready to sell them on the last day, so as the term draws to a close the pupils will be working right up until the last minute.

Well done Year 6, a successful second term.
