Mrs Leanne Brydon - Head of Akeley Wood Junior School
"It is a genuine privilege to introduce myself as Headteacher of Akeley Wood Junior School.
Throughout my career, I have been passionate about creating schools where children are known and valued as individuals, where they feel a strong sense of belonging and where they are given every opportunity to flourish. There is a genuine warmth in the way our children are known, understood and cared for. These positive relationships create an environment in which children feel safe and confident to be themselves, to take on new challenges and to develop a real love of learning.
I believe passionately in developing the whole child. Academic achievement is important, but an exceptional education should offer so much more. We want our children to become confident, curious, resilient and compassionate young people who recognise their own strengths and celebrate the qualities that make them unique. Every child has different talents, interests and aspirations, and our role is to recognise that individuality and provide the experiences that enable each child to thrive.
Our beautiful setting provides something particularly special. With extensive grounds and nature quite literally on our doorstep, we have wonderful opportunities to enrich learning through the outdoors. I am excited to explore how we can make even greater use of our environment, giving children opportunities to investigate, create, collaborate, take appropriate risks and experience learning beyond the traditional classroom.
As we look ahead, my ambition is to build upon the many strengths already evident at Akeley Wood Junior School while continuing to develop and enrich the experiences we offer. Working together with our children, staff and families will be central to this journey, ensuring that we retain the distinctive character and warmth of our school while always looking for ways to make the educational experience even better."

Mr Jonathan Stevens - Head of Akeley Wood Senior School
At Akeley Wood School, we believe that education should do more than prepare young people for examinations. It should inspire curiosity, build character, nurture ambition and equip every child with the confidence to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Our aim is simple: to ensure that every pupil is challenged to achieve their very best. We create an environment where high expectations are matched by outstanding support, where pupils are encouraged to think deeply, work hard and develop the resilience needed to overcome challenges. Academic success matters, but so too does the development of the whole person.
We want every child to aspire. Whether their ambitions lead them to top universities, apprenticeships, careers in industry, the arts, sport or entrepreneurship, we encourage them to be ambitious for themselves and to recognise the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. Our role is to help pupils discover their strengths, develop their talents and realise their potential.
One of the distinctive features of Akeley Wood is our beautiful setting. We believe that some of the most valuable learning takes place beyond the classroom walls. Our extensive green spaces provide opportunities for exploration, reflection, creativity and adventure. From outdoor learning and sport to environmental stewardship and simply enjoying the natural world, we encourage pupils to develop a lifelong appreciation for the benefits of being outdoors.
Above all, Akeley Wood is a community. It is a place where pupils are known as individuals, where relationships matter and where every child is encouraged to contribute, participate and flourish. We want our young people to leave us not only with excellent qualifications, but with kindness, confidence, independence and a genuine sense of purpose.
I am proud to lead a school that combines academic ambition with warmth, opportunity and a deep commitment to developing well-rounded young people. I warmly invite you to visit us and see for yourself the energy, enthusiasm and sense of possibility that make Akeley Wood such a special place to learn and grow.
