Enriched Curriculum

Enriching the Mind and Body.

We're proud of our Academic Curriculum, designed to get the best from every child and push them to be as successful as they can.

We're equally proud of our distinct Friday afternoons at Akeley Wood Senior School, entirely dedicated to our Enriched Curriculum programme. This programme is additional to the fantastic extra-curricular offer of Sport, Music and Creative Arts that is timetabled into the week and provided within extra lunchtime and after school clubs at Akeley.

Akeley Friday Afternoons.

On Friday afternoons, each student chooses an activity to stimulate their body and mind, and we actively encourage them to try something new. The clubs, offered on a termly rotation, are varied in discipline and scope and there is something for everyone here. Students of all ages, across the Senior School, mix in these activities. We think this adds to community cohesion across the school, encouraging pupils to mentor and support each other, especially in the context of discovering something new. We also offer Sixth Form students the opportunity to assist in running the sessions.

There’s an impressive enrichment programme at Akeley that Christian has thrown himself into. He has only just started playing rugby but he’s already playing for the ‘B’ team, and as a keen skiier he has his sights on the school race teams.

A variety of unique and enriching clubs, with something for everyone.

Akeley Eco Action

This group meets to discuss and act upon environmental issue both locally and globally. If you care about looking after our planet and want to take action alongside like-minded souls - then this is the club for you.

Couch to 5K

This group meets weekly to improve fitness and enjoy the stunning countryside we are lucky to have surrounding our school. We encourage walking and running and most importantly each other!

Games Design with Python

Create a range of games including Pong, Snake, Space Invaders, Falling Skies, Missile Command and Maze. Develop your own games working individually or in small groups using self-help guides and videos, or come up with your own original concept and design!

Verbal Fight Club

Come and develop your confidence with public speaking and engage in interesting topics with Akeley's very own debating club. There's a new topic each week to develop your skills with engaging debating games and techniques.

Shooting technique, the layout of the Archery range and equipment maintenance is all covered in this activity. You can try and improve on your PB week by week and take part in competitions to win prizes.

Students travel to the nearby Swan Pool in Buckingham where they are taught the main strokes of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and spend time each week refining their skills. They will also master tumble turns, and learn life-saving drills. This is a very popular Friday afternoon activity.

Our younger students also get to enjoy a myriad of activities beyond the classroom and academic curriculum. Explore the fantastic extra-curricular programme on offer at Akeley Wood Junior School and discover how children from Reception to Year 6 are also encouraged to expand their horizons and try something new.
