Welcome to Akeley Wood School

Akeley Wood School provides an independent, co-educational day school education from Nursery to Sixth Form. Our school is based across three stunning and historic sites that span the two counties of Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire, with plenty of wide open space in which to learn and grow.

We strongly believe in the value of the individual and aim to bring the very best out of your child in every way that we can, always encouraging our students to try new things and find their own individual passions.

Our academic offer is strong, class sizes are small and our teaching is of a high standard. Outside the classroom we offer a myriad of extra-curricular activities and opportunities, that coupled with a robust pastoral programme, create the ideal setting for the very best all-round holistic education.

Be You. Brilliantly.

From day one, we recognise and support every student’s unique personality and talents. We believe that it’s only when you are genuinely understood and appreciated that you have the confidence to be your best.

You. Finding Your Passion.

From textiles to triathlon, debating to further maths, it’s the sheer breadth of experiential and immersive learning at Akeley Wood that allows every one of our students to find their element and thrive in it.

You. Grasping Every Opportunity.

Deliberately small class sizes ensure our teachers give each child the time and attention they need to develop at their own pace, immerse themselves in what they enjoy and reach their full potential.

Facilities & Location

Explore our three idyllic campuses.

Our Senior School and Sixth Form campuses are set close to each other just a few miles north of the town of Buckingham in the rural heart of the county, while our Junior School campus is just a fifteen minute drive away on the Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire border. We have a large network of bus routes spanning 25 miles and three counties, as well as a shuttle bus service between sites for families with siblings across multiple campuses.

Each of the three sites are full of character with their own historic significance. The grand buildings have been adapted and equipped for a modern 21st century education with up to date classrooms and facilities to offer the very best environment in which to learn and flourish. The grounds offer excellent sports facilities, outdoor learning areas and big wide open green spaces in which to roam - something many of our students say they really value.

Akeley Wood School: 'The Door'

In our new school film, we wanted to represent not just the facilities and spaces of Akeley Wood School, but the feeling, the special community, the acceptance and the opportunities that can be found here.

We wanted to get across the sense that behind every door, there are exciting things going on to inspire every single person at the school, whether you are a four year old child feeling wonder every day as your educational journey start, or a Sixth Form student looking forward into the rest of your life armed with the experiences you have collected along the way.

We hope you enjoy your magical journey through Akeley Wood School!

We fell in love with it immediately – the sweeping driveway through fields on either side to a beautiful building that was once an 18th century country house. The playing fields overlook countryside, and not a car in sight.

In light of the Euros on Sunday, here is a football themed Student Spotlight, starring Hattie!⚽️

‘Hattie started playing football in September 2022 after being inspired by the Lionesses. Hattie began her passion when she joined a local grassroots club and fell in love with the sport. Playing for MK Dons quickly became her goal, but when she trialled in Spring ‘23 she was unsuccessful in reaching the talent centre.’

Hattie showed impeccable resilience and determination as she continued to challenge herself and keep training. She didn’t give up and began training with the MK Dons Girls Advanced centre.

‘Hattie has enjoyed much success with her grassroots team, and was awarded the Player of the Tournament in last years prep schools tournament and Player of the Year from her club Willen FC this year.

She trialled for the MK Dons Academy last month, in preparation for the Talent Centre trials, and was delighted to be selected for the 2nd round of academy trials.

She missed out on being one of the 12 girls selected for the Academy this year, but got immediately promoted onto the ETC Team, without needing to trial.

She is delighted, and already determined to make the Academy team next year!

Hattie was also awarded the Sports Personality of the Year award for Year 6 girls earlier this week - so quite a week for Hattie!’

Akeley Wood School is so proud of Hattie and her unwavering efforts. The combination of Hattie’s impressive ambition and even more impressive talent has kickstarted her football journey. We cannot wait to hear about her future successes at the Academy next year. Keep up the incredible work, Hattie!

🎭✨ End-of-Year Productions Shine Bright at Akeley Wood Junior School! 🌟🎬

We are thrilled to share the highlights of our Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6 end-of-year musical productions, which captivated audiences and showcased our students' incredible talents!

Year 3 & 4 Production: Star Warts: The Umpire Strikes Back
Our younger stars took us on an intergalactic adventure with "Star Warts: The Umpire Strikes Back"! Filled with puns and musical numbers, the play had everyone laughing and tapping their feet. Luke Warmwater, his aunt Daft Ada, and their friends embarked on a thrilling journey to thwart the evil Umpire. The costumes and sound effects brought this cosmic tale to life, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Year 5 & 6 Musical: Treachery at Traitors’ Quay
Our Year 5 & 6 students dazzled with their wartime mystery musical, "Treachery at Traitors’ Quay." Set against the backdrop of foggy, mysterious Traitors' Quay, the five Dawson children, evacuated from London, found themselves in a web of intrigue. With characters like the bumbling Home Guard, a recognisable speaker encouraging the nation through the war, stern air raid wardens, and a returned sea captain, the plot thickened as they raced to uncover the spy among them. The performance was filled with suspense and excitement, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats.

A special thank you to Emma Little, our dedicated music teacher, for coordinating these fantastic productions. Her collaboration with teachers, students, and parents ensured the shows' success. Thank you also to all of the teachers and parents for their dedication to put on such fabulous shows.

Congratulations to all our talented students for their hard work and brilliant performances! Here's to a summer of cherished memories and well-deserved rest.

🌍 A-Level Geography Trip to Swanage 🌍

Day 1: The Akeley Wood School students began their trip to Swanage with a stop at Barton-on-Sea, one of the region's most rapidly eroding coastlines. They observed the erosive power of the sea and conducted Bipolar evaluations of coastal defences along with field sketches. The group then travelled along the coast and crossed to Studland via the Sandbanks Ferry, completing an afternoon of fieldwork and gathering data for their NEA projects.

Day 2: It was a busy day of fieldwork! Two students focused on Human Geography by collecting data in Bournemouth, while the others investigated the coastal characteristics of Swanage Bay.

Day 3: The students explored the magnificent coastal landforms of the Jurassic Coast, including Lulworth Cove, Stair Hole and Durdle Door.

The weather was kind, and the students worked diligently, collecting valuable data throughout the trip. The school is incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication!

A huge thank you to Miss. Hannah Fraser for organizing this enriching and educational trip. Your efforts are truly appreciated!
