Sixth Form Facilities

Your experience at AW6 is as much about advancement as a person and preparation for future success, as it is about developing your knowledge and gaining the best academic results. That’s why we’ve created a campus as inspiring as our approach. Following the completion of the £1million facilities refurbishment, AW6 offers the perfect environment in which to hone your skills and fulfil your potential for a truly successful future.

FACILITIES

The recent investment at AW6 has seen a complete refurbishment to this beautiful mansion house campus. The ground floor is now full of dedicated study and social spaces, including an onsite café, two common rooms, a university style seminar room and a spacious Creative Arts Studio equipped with spaces for photography, textiles, ceramics and fine art.

The first and second floor classrooms have been completely modernised to include smartboard technology together with new furniture, designed with a collaborative learning space in mind. Our specialist classroom spaces have been completely renovated and include a new science laboratory, a brand new Media Suite furnished with 14 Macs, a state of the art Music Suite including a Music Technology area and recording studio. The best way to see these amazing new facilities is of course in person! Get in touch to arrange your visit and view AW6 first-hand.

Collaborative study and social spaces

AW6 provides an unrivalled educational experience – specialising in combining academic excellence with preparation for the future. It focuses on bridging the gap between school and university and prepares students for the excitement and challenge of life beyond study.

This approach is reflected in our facilities and led to the creation of brand-new spaces specifically designed to enhance our students' experience, productivity and success. As part of our Pre-U approach, spaces such as the University style seminar room and study pods were created in order to encourage collaborative learning and to facilitate Future Ready sessions, such as termly networking breakfasts and debate workshops.

AW6 students will experience an increased level of independence, both with their study and social time, whether this is spent in the café or learning zones, or by engaging in the numerous enterprise or leadership opportunities available.

The timetable is flexible. Free periods are exactly that – free, and if these happen to be at the beginning or end of the day then you do not need to be on campus. You may however wish to spend time in the range of social spaces available, from playing pool in one of the common rooms to having a quick coffee in our onsite cafe between classes. Our facilities offer the ability to manage your time independently and get the best out of your time at AW6.

Award winning

2022 Award

"A £1m undertaking, the new Sixth Form AW6 site opened in Sept 21 at Tile House Mansion, a grand Victorian estate roughly 15 minutes from the Senior School. With a palpable campus-like feel (no uniforms and purely 17-18 year olds) it offers something very different to most day school Sixth Forms in the area. No surprise that Akeley Wood was judged Highly Commended in our Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards 2022 in the ‘Special Sixth Form’ category."
