Our Nursery is an integral part of our Junior School and provides a creative and harmonious environment where children can take their first small steps on an inspiring educational journey that will last a lifetime. Located on our Wicken Park site, it is open 51 weeks a year, closing for a week over Christmas and on public and Bank holidays.
Nursery children are divided by age into four groups:
- Ladybird 1 (12-18 months old)
- Ladybird 2 (18 months to two and a half years)
- Caterpillars (two and a half to three years)
- Butterflies (three to four years)
Through the appropriate mix of hands-on play, group time and structured teaching, learning is tailored appropriately to each age group, with plenty of opportunity given to letting your little one’s imagination fly.
Our talented cooks are on hand to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the children, and children and staff sit down together daily to enjoy a delicious lunch. Individual dietary requirements are also catered for.
Akeley Wood is registered to receive Nursery Grant Funding for children aged three to four years, and we accept childcare voucher schemes for working parents, as well as for out-of-hours care and holiday clubs.
To accommodate busy parents, we are able to offer wraparound care extending from 8am to 6pm, with the same excellent levels of care and supervision you can expect during core hours.
We believe that the best way for you to understand the quality of our facilities is to visit us for an Open Day or Coffee Morning. Here you’ll get a chance to check out our facilities and get a feel for the atmosphere here at Akeley Wood School.
