Admissions Process

Nursery Admissions

Applications to Akeley Wood Nursery are welcomed from parents looking for nursery provision from the child’s first birthday until they are due to start school (the September following a child’s fourth birthday). Applications can be made at any age once the child’s birth has been registered.

The first formal stage is to register your son or daughter with us, detailing the sessions that you would ideally require. For those children already attending a childcare setting, we will ask their current provider for a reference and may invite your child, accompanied by a family member, to meet the Nursery Manager. Taking these elements into consideration and on the basis of being able to offer the sessions to meet your childcare need, we would ideally make an offer of a place.

However, there will be occasions when the offer of a place cannot be made, and we would explain any such decision to parents at an early stage. We accept children whose individual needs we feel we will be able to cater for and will thrive in the nurturing preschool environment we offer.

Included in the application process is the opportunity to have two ‘settling in’ sessions to ensure your child is happy in our care.

Nursery places are in exceptionally strong demand for all ages so we encourage parents to register early. Please contact our Admissions Team online or by email at admissions@akeleywoodschool.co.uk to enquire about a place and to arrange a personal tour of the nursery and school.

We are registered to receive Nursery Grant Funding for all children aged three to four years. We are also happy to accept all childcare voucher schemes for working parents with children under five, as well as vouchers for out-of-hours care and holiday clubs.

Junior School Admissions

Applications to Akeley Wood Junior School are welcomed from parents looking for primary school-aged education. Applications can be made at any age for the September following a child’s fourth birthday.

The first formal stage is to register your son or daughter with us and provide their most recent school report. We will then ask their current school for a reference and may invite your child to meet the Head of School. On the basis of this we would ideally make an offer of a place.

However, there will be occasions when the offer of a place cannot be made, and we would explain any such decision to parents at an early stage. We accept students of at least average academic ability who we believe will thrive happily in our environment and will be benefit from the rich and varied education we offer.

As part of the admissions process, we welcome children to experience a taster session/day with us so they can begin to get to know the school, the staff and our pupils. Junior School places are in strong demand so we encourage parents to register early. Please contact our Admissions Team online or by email at admissions@akeleywoodschool.co.uk to enquire about a place and arrange a personal tour of the school.

Entry is deemed automatic for all those children already attending the Akeley Wood Nursery, provided that the School judges it can successfully meet the child’s educational needs and that the child will be able to manage and enjoy the expectations of day-to-day school life.
