Akeley Wood Junior School

Akeley Wood is a happy, caring community with a very special atmosphere that pervades the whole school, from Nursery right through to Sixth Form. In our vibrant Junior School, at the heart of all learning and development we continue to foster a strong emphasis on good manners, self-discipline, and consideration and respect for others.

The carefully structured Junior School curriculum lays the foundation of basic skills in literacy, numeracy, science, history, geography, art, design and technology, food technology and IT. Great importance is placed on the acquisition of fluent reading and numeracy skills, through a considered mix of whole class, group and individual work.

Further enhancing the breadth of subjects taught at Junior level, PE/games, Modern Foreign Languages, music and ICT are taught by specialists, and our ever-popular Forest School, coupled with a rich and eclectic extra-curricular programme, serve to inspire our young people in new and exciting ways.

Although we place a particular emphasis on high academic achievement, we are equally committed to developing the individual passions, talents and personal qualities of all our children, helping them to follow their chosen path, wherever it may take them in the future. We hope they will both enjoy and value their time here, and will take with them not only the best possible qualifications, but also a sense of purpose, self-belief, firm friendships and compassion  towards others that will serve them well throughout adult life.

For primary school admissions please contact our admissions team.  I look forward to welcoming you to the school.
