Whatever pupils’ abilities, they gain an enhanced sense of self-esteem and competitive spirit from participating in both curricular and extracurricular sport, with Physical Education and Sports Science popular options at both GCSE and A Level. Pupils also become familiar with the benefits of exercise in maintaining personal fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
We have, in recent years, invested heavily in our facilities. We have an impressive all-weather full-size Astroturf pitch for Football and Hockey, twelve tennis courts and a four-badminton court, heated sports dome all set in the surrounding woods and fields, the perfect location for sports enjoyment.
Sport at Akeley Wood School is continuing to thrive through the close community of staff, pupils and parents. This is what makes Sport at Akeley Wood School special and unique. We look forward to welcoming all pupils to our clubs and training sessions and all parents to support our fixtures.
We have many fixtures over the winter in Rugby and Hockey, Football and Netball. In the summer, the pupils take part in Cricket, Rounders, Athletics and Tennis. Our diverse extracurricular programme allows all pupils to engage in a wide range of alternative activities including Badminton, Street Dance, Table Tennis and Strength and Conditioning. We encourage all pupils to get on-board with the extra-curricular programme which we offer here at Akeley Wood School and as the range of activities change every term, there is definitely a sports club to appeal to everyone!
